Perfect for beginners—no experience needed! Get ready to roll up your sleeves, get a little messy, and have fun learning the basics of pottery on the wheel.

Our instructor will guide everyone through the process step by step, showing you how to prepare the clay, use the pottery wheel, and create your own unique piece. This workshop is all about trying something new, laughing, and enjoying the experience with friends and family.

A few things to know—The pottery wheel is one of the most rewarding—and challenging—ways to work with clay. The best way to enjoy your party is to come with an open mind and focus on the experience rather than perfection.

Learning to throw pottery takes practice, and most people won't master centering clay or create a perfectly shaped piece during their first session. That's completely normal! Every attempt is part of the learning process, and every piece you make is uniquely yours.

Whether your creation is beautifully symmetrical or wonderfully one-of-a-kind, you'll leave with a fun memory and a new appreciation for the art of pottery.

The wheel is messy, creative, and hands-on—and yes, cleaning up is all part of the experience! We recommend wearing clothes you don't mind getting a little dirty or bringing an apron.

If you fall in love with wheel throwing (and many people do!), we encourage you to come back for another class. Like any skill, confidence and technique grow with practice, and each visit is a chance to improve while having fun.

Learn, Spin, Centre, Repeat

Our clay wheel party encourages being present and mindful while creating, and focusing on the journey rather than the outcome.

2. Everything starts with a lump of clay

Enjoy the pure magic at your fingertips when you transform a simple lump of clay into a functional vessel! This captivating process brings joy and satisfaction in creating something unique with your own two hands.
3. Spin! Spin! Spin!

3. Spin! Spin! Spin!

Techniques are best learned through practice, and our program is designed to maximize your time on the wheel. Instructor demonstrations include: throwing, centering, opening and pulling, coning, and more!
4. Trimming

4. Trimming

You will learn the basic of trimming your piece right on the wheel after you throw and then we'll give it a simple trim when the clay is leather dry.
5. Ready to dry

5. Ready to dry

Clay must be bone dry before it's fired in the kiln for the bisque fire. Our kilns heat the clay to an internal temperature of about 2000 degrees! You might cook a pizza at home around 450 degrees, so that's REALLY HOT! 🍕😋
6. Glazing

6. Glazing

Then we apply glaze which is the final step and one more firing in the kiln to set the glaze and your pieces are ready to go home! This whole process can take about 3 weeks from your event date.

By the end of the clay wheel party you will have:

  • Worked on learning the very important skill of how to feel the centre on the wheel

  • Produced up to 2 clay pieces (bowls, plates, cups or vases)

  • Learned how to safely use our professional equipment & tools

  • Created finished works of art ready to take home and be admired
