Perfect for beginners—no experience needed! Get ready to roll up your sleeves, get a little messy, and have fun learning the basics of pottery on the wheel.

Our instructor will guide you step by step through the process, showing you how to prepare the clay, use the pottery wheel, and create your own unique piece. This workshop is all about trying something new, learning a new skill, and enjoying the creative process in a relaxed and supportive environment.

A Few Things to Know—The pottery wheel is one of the most rewarding—and challenging—ways to work with clay. The best way to enjoy your workshop is to come with an open mind and focus on the experience rather than perfection.

Learning to throw pottery takes practice, and most people won't master centering clay or create a perfectly shaped piece during their first session. That's completely normal! Every attempt is part of the learning process, and every piece you make is uniquely yours.

Whether your creation is beautifully symmetrical or wonderfully one-of-a-kind, you'll leave with a fun experience and a new appreciation for the art of pottery.

The wheel is messy, creative, and hands-on—and yes, cleaning up is all part of the experience! We recommend wearing clothes you don't mind getting a little dirty or bringing an apron.

If you discover that you love wheel throwing (and many people do!), we encourage you to join us again.

Like any skill, confidence and technique grow with practice, and each workshop is another opportunity to learn, improve, and enjoy the creative process.

Learn, Create, Grow, Repeat

Our Try the Wheel workshop encourages being present and mindful while creating, and focusing on the journey rather than the outcome.
1. Professional Tools & Materials

1. Professional Tools & Materials

At our professional art studio, you use only the highest quality tools and materials. Clay, wheels, bats, ribbon tools, pin tools, sponges and more. Plus you will learn a little about the kiln and the magic that happens inside.
2. Everything starts with a lump of clay

2. Everything starts with a lump of clay

Enjoy the pure magic at your fingertips when you transform a simple lump of clay into a functional vessel! This captivating process brings joy and satisfaction in creating something unique with your own two hands. You'll get two 400g lumps of clay to throw.
3. Spin! Spin! Spin!

3. Spin! Spin! Spin!

Techniques are best learned through practice, and this beginner workshop is designed to maximize your time on the wheel. Instructor demonstrations include: throwing, centering, opening and pulling. Fingers crossed, we create 1 or 2 vessels.
4. Trimming

4. Trimming

You'll learn light trimming technique on the wheel, shape & smooth. Then, while your clay is "leather dry" we'll give it a light trim to get it ready to bisque fire.
5. Ready to dry

5. Ready to dry

Clay must be bone dry before it's fired in the kiln for the bisque fire. Our kilns heat the clay to an internal temperature of about 2000 degrees! You might cook a pizza at home around 450 degrees, so that's REALLY HOT! 🍕😋This whole process can take up to 14 days.
6. Glazing

6. Glazing

This is a 2-Part workshop. You must book your glazing after 14 days from the wheel workshop. Glazing is not included in the price of this workshop. Applying glaze is the final step of your clay creations, and some argue just as relaxing as the wheel.
